A Silent House by the Sea

By Abigail Brown

In a silent house by the sea, nothing can be heard.

In a silent house by the sea, lots can be heard.

In a silent house by the sea, through walls and whispers, you can hear maybe more than you should.

You can hear laughter and mourning.

You can hear wedding bells and funeral marches.

But in a silent house by the sea, you can hear no waves and no wind.

No gulls and no splashing.

Maybe a silent house by the sea is not silent

But maybe a silent house by the sea is not by the sea.

In a silent house by the sea, who can tell if what they know for certain is true?
